Airstreams as the Penthouse

I’m frequently impressed with the versatility of Airstream travel trailers. Sure, we use ours in a pretty traditional fashion as an RV. But a growing number of businesses are finding creative applications for the silver bullets.

We’ve seen coffee shops (I recall one in New Mexico dubbed The Silver Bean), juice bars (Raw & Juicy in Seaside, Florida), and restaurants. But this new application in Capetown, South Africa takes the cake. It’s a group of Airstream trailers being used as rooftop penthouse hotel suites! Here are a couple of articles on the unique concept at the Grand Daddy Hotel.

Apparently each trailer has received customized interior decoration according to different themes.

Imagine what was involved in the task of crane-lifting seven Airstreams onto a four-story roof.

Kristy and I are planning to take our blog global in 2009, and experience RVing overseas. Who knows, perhaps we will schedule a stop at the Grand Daddy Hotel in Capetown.
