Here’s a straightforward “how to” topic that doesn’t need a lot of explanation.
When you buy a Ford diesel pickup truck, the odds are pretty good that you’ll get one keyless entry remote. While keyless entry isn’t exactly necessary for survival in the wilderness, it is a nice feature. It comes in particularly handy late at night, when you want to ensure your truck is securely locked without stepping outside your cozy rig.
We carry at least a couple of key rings when we are Airstream camping. One ring is loaded with the full “library” of keys. This includes ignition keys, water compartment keys, hitch lock keys, padlock keys, storage compartment keys, and keys to a number of mysterious items that we probably no longer even own. Unfortunately this key ring weighs about the same as a Smart Car.
On the second ring we carry only the essentials. It weighs a lot less, and I can walk around town carrying it in my pocket without sounding like a Transformer.

I like to have a keyless remote on both rings. Alas, our truck only included one such remote. Factory originals sometimes are priced like Beluga caviar.
Thankfully, we have the aftermarket, and we can buy inexpensive remotes that work just the same for the cost of a Big Gulp soda (in the states where such dangerous food products are still legal).
