This morning (EARLY this morning) Kristy and I towed our Airstream to a local park for a TV appearance.
The park is Vulcan Park in Birmingham, Alabama. The statue of Vulcan, I’m told, is the 2nd largest iron statue in the world (the largest being the Statue of Liberty).
The TV show is dubbed “Daytime Alabama” and its hosted by Brooke Smith. If Brooke looks strangely familiar, that could be becaue you were among the 26 million people who watched ABC’s “The Bachelor” a few years ago when she was a prominent contestant. Since her foray into reality television, Brooke has worked local TV in Birmingham. She now hosts a morning show, where her naturally upbeat personality is a great fit. Sorry bachelors! She’s now married and expecting her first child.
We had a great time visiting with Brooke and her crew, discussing our RV travel adventures.
I’ll post a link to the show segment when it becomes available online.
Ya but the question is…. does she like AS and RV’n??? we all know she has color cooordinated shoes to match the outfit… like someone else we know… then there is Sean… ahhh bud you need something… just can’t say what it is but looking at the picture.. ahhhh nice looking trailer.. grin… must be the pictuer composure… grin… ahhh Sean when your with two women… the guy always goe in the middle… in case they havn’t told you yet… ya don’t use the height taper rule… for 3… LOL…
Hey see your boy MM is on the new AS Newsletter… Ok here is the deal.. you call and set up to do a video live interview on his trailer… and all… that way Kristie can .. no on second though have Kristie do the live interview.. well maybe he will make her forget his lines.. OK then You do the interview and Krisitie can oggle… ahhh well on second thought now… maybe not… grin… you could always ask him how he works out. using one of them wigie boards…or give you pointers on losing that weight… but first then you would have to get it away from Kristie… I would imagine… Well try not to be in the way when she makes her run … you know how a stampeed works… Of course right now he is bulking up to play a role … oh and he is down in your country now…new orleans according to the directory… hey take two ice cold tall necks over and who knows… you should be in…
The adventure contenues…
Oh I figured it out… WARDROBE…
GMAs, Brooke said she was seriously considering buying an RV (not sure if it would be an Airstream) for use in autumn football tailgating. Football season is a big deal down here! People often bring their RVs to the stadium a few days before a game to make the most of it.
We would love to interview MM for the blog. I believe it will happen someday, but unfortunately I doubt we’ll catch him in New Orleans. Our itinerary takes us north. We’re thinking Maine and beyond.
Maybe on our next haul out West we will plan on some quality LA time. We really enjoy Los Angeles (did I ever tell you that I lived in Santa Monica in the late 90s?) and are always looking for a reason to go back.
Oh yeah, and about the Wii Fit? It’s great, but like all exercise it only works when you do it. We were doing great for a while, then skipped town for the beach and it changed our routine. I think the real problem for frequent travelers and exercise is the lack of routine. We gotta resume our workouts on this trip. No excuses! 😀
Hmmm…. ya think she will make it to the fall playoffs… may need more than a trailer …more like a stroller…
Yep sounds like fun… before the big game… is the big tailgate party…
Sorry to hear you were tasked with living in Santa Monica… when you could have been just up the coast … Well now that your into being a 6 pack abs man instead of the 6 pack of beer man… maybe it might be more motivative to having MM give you some PT pointers… What most people need is a DI with a whip and a chair… to force them into the routine… or they will always come up with some excuse not to do the workouts… I just happen to have a whole list of them… in case you need to borrow one or two… everything from ” I think I cracked my knee” to ” I have eye trouble today.. I just can’t see myself doing the workout… ” and a few more that involve personal physical reasions not to … americans spend lots of money on devices.. (No 2 industry behind weight loss pills and fads) . when in fact they need none .. just get out and walk… and push back from the table… its that pushing back from all that good food that gets us into trouble… see its the womens fault… if they didn’t cook it… we would be so much thinner… from starvation… grin… then again major cause for men leaving home and supporting the fast food industry with drive through’s … just don’t take Seemore… you won’t escape…grin…
Hee hee… does this read a lot like what someone we know wrote … grin… Oh Kristie make a tape of this and play it when he wakes up EVERY MORNING….
Sean wrote…
Here’s my strategy, in general terms: (HUH??? general terms)
SIX DAYS A WEEK:
No “white carbs” (white bread, cereals, sugars, etc.)
Vastly reduced sugar intake (no chocolate — ouch — or beer — double ouch)
Meals will consist of eggs, chicken beef, cheese, spinach, beans (pinto, black, northern)
Snacks will be nuts (almonds, macadamia) and Atkins sugarfree / low carb treats (here’s where I get my sugar free chocolate fix)
Alcohol? I’m allowing myself red wine with dinner, but no beer or liquor. ( I don’t think that means the WHOLE Bottle… )
ONE DAY A WEEK:
I’ll have a scheduled free day, and consume whatever food and beverage I want. (Nope thats now out… )
EVERY DAY:
I will do at least one 30-minute workout on our treadmill, which burns at least 350 calories. So in 30 days I’ll have completed 30 workouts burning 35000 calories. (best increase that to 3 times a day… hut hut hut…)
We’ve also picked up a Wii Fit — more on this device later — and intend to take it with us on the road. ( I don’t think the idea was to just haul it around… it won’t work IN THE BOX… you do have to hop on it…to make it work)
The workouts alone translate to 5 pounds of weight loss. What about the additional 15? I’m counting on the slow carb to modify my metabolism and pick up the extra slack. (zzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzz zzzzzz)
Will his strategy work? Any advice?( — Ahhhh well….. you still have a few days to hit the gym and do sweat equity… Remember the whole world is sitting and watching… no pressure.. no pressure… … hey hon where is my beer?? this one is empty….please ma’m may I have another while we watch…. LOL
don’t you just love these modern high tech tattleing devices… Kristie want to borrow my electronic zapper cattle prod to chase Sean around with… and get his metobolism back up??? Eggs … eggs and more eggs to keep the diet going… then prunes.. prunes and more prunes… and he will, one way or the other, be dropping the weight in no time… grin…
Hey, I enjoyed my time in the People’s Republic of Santa Monica. Had a nice little apartment on 4th Street and walked to Montana and the Promenade. Made regular trips to Malibu (burgers at Duke’s, seafood at Reel Inn, etc.). I really enjoyed exploring the hills in that area…one could drive up a couple of miles off the coast and find some wonderful views.
LOL on the diet plan. Hey, it actually worked pretty well when I stuck to it. The problem is…we establish a routine at home, then we hit the road for a while and our routine falls apart….and bad habits return.
Believe it or not, I actually work out (treadmill) pretty regularly, but I drink wine even more regularly. I’m afraid that my daily caloric intake from wine torpedoes my potential weight loss.
I have a friend who lost about 60 pounds in 6 months. How? No radical diets or gadgets…. He WALKED…twice a day (morning and evening) for about 3 miles a trip. He just walked the weight off. Really it can be that simple IF you do it every day.
Indeed…. I have a associate director who does the show “biggest loser” … he decieded that he needed to lose about 40 lbs of what we call chicken fat… he not only did the show but… also when not shooting did the exercieses… and within 10 weeks… he lost over 70 lbs… (now we can tell time by just having him stand out in the sun.. where as before we used to use him for shade–grin)
He was amazed at the weight that some of the people in the show lost… but, most of it was lost… as you said… from exercise… and not as much fatty foods… they really didn’t count cal’s as much as they burned it off and got the motabo back up to where it was supposed to be…
The advise doctor on the set… also had them eat combo foods… seems it sets the motabo up so that you are more energetic… but he didn’t allow them to use any drugs or shots to hype ’em… so I understand… they lost the weight by shear brute work… by holding a carrot in front of them for a prize if they lost…
One thing he did say was that the “trainers” worked ’em hard … and instead of reaching for the can of Coke… it was only water… The other thing that I noticed in some of the directory was that they forced them to shut off the TV and get 8 hrs of sleep a night…
So your right… you can either quit eating.. or start burning it off… most are saying that burning is the only real way… most people then get tired and look for that magic pill to do the work for them… lazy?? mental?? who can say… but one thing for sure.. you can have a better healthy life… according to my doc… if you stay physically fit and get out and do things… i.e non couch patatoe… get behind the curve… and then have a overcoming problem… (I think Lynn Duffy on the blog also has written a lot of good ideas on staying healthy on the road… heck that is why AS put a kitchen in the thing… hmmm… but then why travel.. if not to sample the local foods???
I think the best part of my physical life was when I joined the AF and we had to be not only competitive but also fit… During the OTS training and PT… at dawn daily…. I think we got in the best shape we ever were… but then we had a lot of yelling and screaming… as well as personal goals going on… today… well… one could say its the easy life…
some of the crew were talking the other day about using bikes and not the car… but it wasn’t due to health.. no.. rather cost… they seemed to account for a great savings in fuel cost.. using the bike instead of car for running around… I heard one mention that he now has worked up to riding his to the beach.. some 20 miles away… and LIKES doing it… he was claiming that it relieved a lot of stress …not to mention that he got into the beach parking free.. instead of paying the 25 bux… hmmmm… where is my old bike… I used to have a paperboy special from years (40) back… probably a collectors item today… but it should be fun… fixing it back up and using it… too…
Keep up the good work.. and make Kristie proud… or y-ellous … who needs MM when she has the incredible buff hunk… you… grin…
